The association Gas Storage Nederland (Gasopslag Nederland) was established in August 2011 and represents the interests of gas storage operators in the Netherlands. Our aim is to put forward all our members’ opinions about gas storage in discussions about Dutch and European gas legislation.

  • What is Gas Storage Nederland’s aim?

    Gas Storage Nederland allows gas storage facility developers and operators to speak with one voice. In this way we can achieve a favourable climate for new and existing gas storage facilities. We want to emphasise the importance of gas storage for a reliable and sustainable energy supply. We are seeking to achieve this by holding discussions with the relevant authorities, such as the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), the European Commission and ACER (Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators).

  • Who can become a member of Gas Storage Nederland?

    Membership of Gas Storage Nederland is open to all gas storage operators and developers who have a connection agreement with the operator of the national gas transmission network (Gasunie Transport Services, GTS). They must be involved in the storage of gaseous natural gas and not CO2 or LNG.

  • Who is represented by Gas Storage Nederland?

    Gas Storage Nederland currently represents gas storage operators Eneco Gasspeicher, EnergyStock, Gas Storage Bergermeer, EKB (Etzel-Kavernenbetriebsgesellschaft), innogy gas storage NWE and Gas Storage OMV Etzel. The first three members mentioned above are the founders of Gas Storage Nederland.

    Gas Storage Nederland wants to achieve its aim by acting in the interests of its members. We enter into negotiations with European and Dutch governments, regulatory bodies and other interested parties involved in the Dutch gas infrastructure. We also act on behalf of our members by supplying information, advising on statutory measures, conducting legal proceedings and drawing attention to issues and problems confronting members.

    The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), ACER (Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators), the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, the National Mines Inspectorate (SodM) and the European Commission.
